The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes what gets recommended.

Why we disclose this

The United States Federal Trade Commission requires that material connections between a publisher and the products it reviews are disclosed clearly. Similar rules exist in the UK, the EU and Australia. We would disclose it anyway, because a review you cannot trust is worth nothing.

Programmes we participate in

At the time of writing this includes, and may not be limited to:

• Hosting providers, where a signup can pay a one-off commission.
• WordPress theme and plugin vendors, where a purchase can pay a percentage, sometimes recurring.
• The Amazon Associates programme, for hardware and gear mentioned in articles.

Where an article contains affiliate links, a note appears near the top of that article. Where a whole category is affiliate-supported, the note appears on the category page.

How recommendations are actually decided

Products are tested on real sites before they are written about. Rankings come from measured results, such as stylesheet weight, Lighthouse scores, and how a theme behaves after an update. A higher commission does not move a product up a list, and we publish negative findings about products we earn from.

If a product we recommend stops being the best option, the article gets updated or retired rather than left in place because it still converts.

Sponsored content

We do not publish paid guest posts, paid link insertions, or sponsored reviews. If that ever changes, sponsored items will be labelled as such at the top of the article, and the label will not be removable by scrolling past it.
