CaseTheme exists because most WordPress theme reviews are rewritten press releases. Everything here comes out of work on real sites.

Writes the theme reviews, build guides and teardowns published here, and looks after how they are structured and found. Every article is drafted from the test results, not from a vendor briefing.

What this site is

CaseTheme covers four things: WordPress themes, the tech that runs a website, the marketing that brings people to it, and the business of doing this for a living. The themes section is the anchor. Everything else supports it.

The format is deliberately boring. A theme is installed on a clean site, measured, broken, updated, and then what happened is written down. No roundups assembled from other roundups.

Who is behind it

The site was founded by a WordPress developer who had spent years rebuilding sites that had been handed over broken, and was tired of reviews that had clearly never been installed. The founder sets the testing standards and runs the builds that the articles are written from, and prefers to stay out of the byline.

Day to day, the writing and the SEO are handled by Abdul Moeed, who is credited on the articles and is the person to contact about anything published here.

How things get tested

Every theme reviewed here goes through the same pass on a clean staging install:

  • Front-end CSS and JavaScript weight measured on a blank page, with no content and no plugins.
  • Whether jQuery loads, and whether that loading is conditional.
  • Lighthouse on mobile and desktop, three runs, median reported.
  • Behaviour at 375px, 768px, 1024px and 1440px.
  • What breaks after a major parent theme or WordPress update.

Numbers printed in an article are numbers that were measured, on the date the article states. If you re-run them and get something different, say so and the test will be repeated and the article corrected.

How this site is funded

Affiliate links, mostly for hosting, themes and plugins. If you buy through one, the site earns a commission and your price does not change. There are no paid guest posts, no paid link insertions, and no sponsored reviews.

What this site will not do

  • Rank a product higher because it pays a higher commission.
  • Leave an outdated recommendation in place because it still converts.
  • Publish a review of something that has not been installed and used.
  • Hide a correction. Material corrections get a dated note at the foot of the article.
